My classes are based around seasonal yoga, which means that we change our focus and movements based on the season that we are experiencing. Just as the trees change to match the season, so we change our asana practice, how we respond to the world around us and our needs change. For more information on Seasonal Yoga click here

Sometimes life throws a curveball and occasionally classes are cancelled, so please sign up to the newletter at the bottom of the page.

During private lessons, we can look at ways of getting the most out of your lifestyle, and take a look into your personal practice, seasonal food, your mindset, your energy, helping you to understand when to use your tools so they are most effective.

I am also able to teach you meditation and breathing techniques in a very attainable way, so you can understand these complex ideas and make them relevant for you.

What TO EXPECT

Expect to come to a class full of other people who are all on their own journey. I currently have people aged between 15 – 80 years and both men and women.

They are there for all sorts of different reasons and will benefit from many different aspects of the class.

Yoga is non-judgmental. If anyone is there to judge, they’re not practising yoga.

The class usually consists of 45-60 minutes of traditional yoga including a relaxing start, building up to strengthening, stretching and balancing postures and flows and ending with 20 minutes of lights off relaxation where I take you through a journey to completely and utterly allow you to switch off. For some, this is the reason they come to me. Snoring is optional!

Few people stop to think about the fact that relaxation is a skill. We tend to assume that we are not relaxed because the circumstances of our lives are too stressful. We may tell ourselves that we will relax after the mortgage is paid or after a family member completes chemotherapy. The truth is that everyone’s life always contains some tension-inducing problems. So we must learn how to relax. Like any other skill, relaxation can be cultivated through learning and practice.

What to wear – wear comfy clothes that don’t ride up or down with movement and expect to remove your socks.

FAQs

i can’t touch my toes, is yoga for me?

While you don't need to be flexible to do yoga, coming to a regular class can help you regain some of that lost flexibility. As a result of spending long periods of time in common positions, including sitting and standing, your low back, hamstrings, and calves can become tight, which will restrict your ability to touch your toes. The answer is YES yoga is for you!

what if i fart?

Occasionaly it happens and usually you are surprised by the sudden escaping of gas from your body. You can ignore it and continue on with your practice or you may quietly say “Excuse me” once the event has occurred. There is no need to be embarrassed as no one will be offended.

why is the relaxation part of the class important?

The relaxation posture at the end of your class is called Shavasana. The name refers to the state of calmness, rest, and relaxation that is the aim of this pose. Sometimes, this can even mean drifting away or napping when the well-exercised body and relaxed mind settle into the mat at the end of the yoga practice. Since our world is moving so quickly, giving your body and mind a break in Savasana is a very valuable practice. While our society places more and more emphasis on speed and productivity, learning how to relax actually helps you become more productive.

is it just for women?

There are more women in most yoga classes than men, but I am on a mission to get men to class to improve with enhanced strength and flexibility, injury prevention, stress relief and overall wellbeing. You are more than welcome to any class, but there is a men only class on a Wednesday morning before work.

will yoga help with anxiety?

Yoga is a mindfulness practice that can help to reduce anxiety symptoms. While this ancient practice wasn’t specifically developed as a treatment for anxiety, its concepts and benefits make it especially effective in calming both the mind and body when you’re feeling anxious. Some of the ways yoga can help with anxiety are by slowing down and focusing on the breath, and by being mindful of the present moment instead of future worries or the stories of the past.

if i like going to the gym, will i also enjoy yoga?

Workouts in the gym, cycling, running and yoga seem like two completely opposing fitness disciplines when in fact, they are quite complementary to each other.

A lot of the techniques and exercises that you do in yoga can aid you in your other workouts and better your performance. So even if you are an Olympic weightlifter, powerlifter or the everyday gym-goer, you will benefit from adding yoga to your day.
